Inspiration Makers!

This year Brilliant Labs is looking for teachers and students who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to innovate education through hands-on STEAM learning. We’re pleased to share this Newfoundland and Labrador’s “Inspiration Maker!”

Jonny Sing, Prince of Wales Collegiate, NL

Meet Mr. Jonny Sing, the dynamic educator at Prince of Wales Collegiate (PWC) in St. John’s, NL, who goes above and beyond to inspire his students. Mr. Sing has been instrumental in the development of a makerspace at PWC and involving students in the process.

Last year, Mr. Sing spearheaded a Brilliant Labs project to support students in designing and building a hydroponics setup that was used to grow food to be used in their Nutrition classes. This year, he’s onto something equally groundbreaking: a project focused on designing inclusive kitchen tools.

Under his guidance, students are brainstorming, prototyping, and 3D printing tools tailored to diverse needs and abilities. Mr. Sing’s Nutrition classes will be innovating as students craft kitchen tools with a purpose — designing for often diverse kitchen users. They will be focusing on creating utensils for diversity,, addressing challenges in the kitchen. Empowering students to think inclusively and design tools tailored to diverse needs! Mr. Sing’s approach isn’t just about teaching — it’s about empowering students to innovate, think critically, and make a real-world impact.

Cheers to educators like Mr. Sing, who cultivate creativity and inclusivity in the classroom, shaping the innovators of tomorrow.

Project Highlight

Holy Trinity Elementary School, Torbay, NL

Under the guidance of their teacher Ms. Christina Manning, Grade 3 students at Holy Trinity Elementary embarked on an exciting journey of creativity and engineering. Learning about natural and human-made structures was just the beginning. Using Makedo tools, they designed and built skyscrapers, dog houses, and even a chocolate factory! Their hard work and teamwork culminated in epic snow forts outside, showcasing their learning in action.

Thanks to Ms. Christina Manning and her students for completing this cool hands-on project!
